A History with a Higher Degree of Tradition

It began with the dream of Bishop Robert H. Clarkson in the late 1800s to establish a hospital in Nebraska. It continued with the dedication of his wife, Meliora, to develop a training school for nurses and evolved to the institution now called Clarkson College.

In its 120-year history, the College has experienced both triumphs and challenges that have strengthened the institution and allowed it to flourish. Today it continues to build on a tradition of innovative education that anticipates changes in health care systems, technology and society. The individuals we serve have always been our success and will continue to be our success.

Our symbol, the Maltese Cross, originated with the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem, who became known as the Knights of Hospitallers because of their care of the sick and poor. These knights of centuries past were united by a pledge of compassion and courage, as are Clarkson College graduates who dedicate their lives in the continuous pursuit of helping others.

Today, the College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, so that you can be assured of high standards.
